This is a dynamic, high-impact role for a seasoned project developer who thrives in fast-paced, multi-dimensional markets. The successful applicant will blend a strategic development perspective with hands-on execution, launching renewable energy projects in emerging markets and delivering them from concept to execution. In collaboration with the Market Strategy team and Project Development Execution teams, this role will test, validate, and scale emerging market opportunities. In addition, this role will own the early-stage project development process for selected market opportunities—leading site diligence, permitting, and interconnection (among other things) to prepare for financing, construction, and operation. Results in emerging markets will help determine which markets Pivot expands into full-time. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker and can leverage strong project development skills to grow project concepts into buildable projects working alongside Pivot’s engineering, structured finance, and community engagement and impact teams to achieve results. Primary Responsibilities Lead Emerging Market Entry & Execution (Development): Partner with the Market Strategy team to understand emerging markets/market opportunities and execute tailored go-to-market strategies. Manage the early-stage development of projects which includes, but is not limited to, site assessments, permitting, public outreach, and utility studies. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure these projects stay on track and within budget. Test, Iterate, Validate, and Scale: Rapidly test market assumptions and drive project execution in new market environments. Rapidly adapt and iterate based on insights gained to evaluate market potential and determine whether Pivot should proceed with development in specific regions. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal Policy, Market Strategy, Engineering, Grid Integration, Legal, Finance, Project Development, PC, CCES teams, and others to ensure every aspect of market entry and project execution is aligned. Manage external relationships with landowners, permitting authorities, utilities, and local stakeholders to ensure smooth project development. Lead Market Assessment & Reporting (Development): Conduct thorough market assessments to ensure all factors (regulatory, grid infrastructure, community support) are addressed. Provide clear, actionable reports to senior leadership on market performance, challenges, and recommendations for next steps. Present findings and strategic insights on whether a market is ready for escalation or de-escalation and suggest resource shifts accordingly. Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the primary representative of Pivot in new markets. Represent the company in public hearings, local meetings, and policy discussions to build support for our project pipeline and market ambitions. Establish strong relationships with key stakeholders and drive local buy-in. Pod Leadership: Help form and manage cross-functional teams composed of internal subject matter experts (SMEs) to advance new market initiatives. Organize and facilitate meetings, ensuring internal contributors stay accountable, and driving market and project progress effectively. Required Competencies 5-10+ years of renewable energy project development experience, with hands-on expertise in site selection, permitting, and project development. Experience launching projects in emerging markets is strongly desired. Strong project management skills, with the ability to move quickly and decisively. Experience in ambiguous environments and comfort in making key decisions with limited data. Ability to turn strategic insights into real, buildable projects. Proven experience in developing renewable energy projects in competitive and nascent markets. Experience with coordinating a successful RFP bid proposal, or similar incentive program opening, to showcase the ability to execute a winning strategy based on factors such as project readiness, community support, creative design, project economics, and/or geography. Ability to proactively assess, test, and validate new market opportunities by developing a portfolio of projects, and communicating findings clearly to senior leadership. Ability to present actionable recommendations backed by data and insights. Experience leading and working with cross-functional teams and collaborating across departments to bring together diverse perspectives to drive successful project outcomes. Creative and resourceful with a knack for solving complex, novel development challenges. Experience navigating regulatory hurdles, engaging with communities, and managing logistics to get things done. A strong belief in the mission of clean energy, and a desire to contribute to Pivot’s vision of accelerating the transition to a more sustainable energy future. Ability to travel up to 25% - 50% annually, or as needed. Preferred Competencies Deep knowledge of energy markets, project finance, and permitting practices. Experience with land acquisition, utility coordination, and grid infrastructure. An advanced degree in business, energy, or a related field is a plus. Passion for Renewable Energy Compensation & Benefits The base salary range for this position is $105,000-$175,000 depending on relevant experience, along with eligibility for the company’s substantial bonus plan, with a target bonus of 30% of annual salary (prorated in first year based on start date).
