SUMMARY: The position of the Bus Monitor for the 0-5 Head Start program is responsible for maintaining compliance and safely transporting children to and from the Head Start Program on a daily basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. The Bus Monitor is responsible to Sign in/out when arriving and departing Head Start Sites.
  2. The Bus Monitor is responsible for assisting children to load and unload the School Bus.
  3. The Bus Monitor is responsible for ensuring all children are completely secure in child safety restraints after the child sits down on the School Bus.
  4. The Bus Monitor is responsible for ensuring release of children only to a person over the age of 16 that is on the approved contact list for that child. Doing so by checking a Photo ID for the person.
  5. The Bus Monitor is responsible for assisting the School Bus Driver in notifying parents of pertinent information by aiding in distributing fliers, notices, etc.
  6. The Bus Monitor is responsible for assisting in maintaining accurate records on children that are riding the Bus that they are a monitor on.
  7. The Bus Monitor is responsible for assisting children, if need be, to or from their pick-up or drop-off address.
  8. The Bus Monitor is responsible for completing a full walk through of the entire School Bus before exiting the School Bus following the route.

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Must be 19 years of age.
  2. Able to work with children, staff, parents and others.
  3. Must be willing to work a split shift.
  4. Must meet DCFS requirements which includes a background check.
  5. Must be able to pass a medical exam certifying freedom form communicable. diseases and illegal substances.
  6. Must be able to obtain a CPR Certification and First Aid Certification.
  7. Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs.
